Early to Rise…Late to Retire

Thursday, January 7, 2021

I woke up earlier than usual and crept up to the attic to do a bit of planning for what I hoped to accomplish today: scan 90 slides, look through another carousel and pull out the tugboat slides, and continue the search for the Polaroid of me and Lenny.

As I was cooling off from my treadmill jog, I decided to look for an article on how to archive/store old 35mm slides. At www.thebestscanners.com, I found this piece: “Best Way to Store 35mm Slides.” Scrolling down, I found something that I think will suit my purpose: a 35mm Slide Storage Box by a company called Logan Electric, which I believe is out of business. However, I was able to find a couple of the sturdy metal cases on Amazon…for a hefty price: $69.95. But I think it is worth it. I want to do this right and I feel that the slides will be secure in the object.

I later returned upstairs and managed to scan 140 slides to the sounds of General Public - All the Rage, Big Band Bossa Nova - Stan Getz, and Norah Jones - Day Breaks Deluxe Edition. Norah Jones didn’t come on the music scene until the start of the 21st century - a little over 10 years after Lenny passed away - but I feel as though he would have liked her voice and her music.

Still no response from Mr. Claiborne, the stepbrother of one Jan Stacy. Something in me senses that I am on the right track. If he does not respond in a few days, I will have to try something different and get a bit more aggressive (in a good way, of course). My mom claims she saw a photo of a man who might have been Jan Stacy. Online, there is only one image available of this writer named Jan Stacy and it is not the clearest, not the sharpest image. I just have to press on and continue to practice patience.

I finally turned in at about 11:30pm — way past my bedtime.
