I Am So Glad (Sort of) to be Wrong: “When His Jacket Was Lost”, Revised

On January 19th, 2021, I posted a brief entry in which I shared a painful story of loss: http://enaonami.com/blog/2021/1/20/when-we-lost-his-jacket. But apparently, once my mom read the post, she went to her closet, took out a plastic container bin, opened it and snapped the photo depicted above. Lenny’s jacket was, in fact, not lost! As my mom recollects, it was actually a very special photo that Lenny had given my brother that had been in the checked suitcase. And so I can’t be entirely glad to have been wrong about the jacket. But it felt so good to see it. My parents said it even still kind of smells like Lenny, the oils that he wore, a faint odor of English Bull Terrier. Mixed with a comforting leatherness.

In celebration, I played some Lenny Kravitz. That man can wear leather. And he often looked so sick, riding his bike. Two Lennys. Both rode bikes, rocked leather, had tatts. This is what I found out about what Kravitz is up to: Lenny Kravitz’s Guide to Immortality. And would you believe he partnered up with Leica at some point?! Lenny. Leica. Lenny. Here: Leica M-P 240 Lenny Kravitz Edition “Correspondent” Special Edition. If only I had about 17K lying around.

But yes, Lenny Kravitz suited the moment of rediscovery of Lenny’s jacket.

Fields of Joy. Fly Away. American Woman. I Belong to You. All Lenny Kravitz Classics.

It’s so strange how memory works. I’m just not sure why my brother didn’t hold onto the jacket. All I know is that when he visits us next, if he decides to bring it back with him, he’ll be wearing it on the plane. And let it be clearly stated that I still do not trust anything valuable to checked-in luggage. And never will.
