A Small, Helpful Suggestion

The other day, I had decided to email a friend of mine I met while I was a Composition & Literature Instructor. This friend is a writer. A good writer. She has published and continues to do so. She still works in higher education but devotes a lot of time to her first love and is dedicated in a way that inspires me. In any event, I had told her of my project and mentioned being a bit unsure of how to proceed. She replied that she does not have any experience publishing the type of project that I am working on but that a friend of hers had once mentioned a strategy to try.
Find all of the published books that are similar formats and/or subjects, books that you really like. Then, read the Acknowledgements page and find out the names of the Agents that the writers worked with. Then, contact them.
I am not sure about a agent just yet. And I know that there is a cost to such a move. It may well be worth it but I think I want to at least get a proposal together that I can present. That will be challenging enough. I hope to get started this weekend, after I have gotten some grading done. As much as I want to fill every day with productive work on this project, I know that is not how life works. And I could use some practice in slowing down a bit…
