Putting It Out There
Wednesday, April 14, 2021
So I decided to send the Google Slide presentation (as a PDF) to the one company that actually specified that they would receive book proposals in that manner: teNeues. I wrote a brief and somewhat clunky email and attached the PDF and it’s now out there. I might have mentioned this blog but I figured it best to just be brief. If they even bother to look me up, they may stumble across it anyway.
I considered writing the email in German but quickly thought better of it. I spent over 10 minutes just trying to get the umlaut over a couple of “u” words (and failed). And then again, my German grammar always sucked. I can recall several embarrassing Supermarket moments when I addressed the cashier with “Du” instead of “Sie.” As if I didn’t already stick out as a foreigner with my Afropuffs, the color of my glasses and my choice of shoes (Germans, you know what I’m talking about).
So I wrote the email in English. I am preparing myself for rejection #1 but am hoping for at least a personal (vs. boilerplate) response, one that wishes me success in my endeavors. We’ll see if I get that. I’m putting the energy out there. I could use some encouragement from a stranger, you know?
Tomorrow, I will select the next company to contact. And the email will be even shorter, more direct and to the point. I do need to make sure it is a company that does not have a complex procedure for submissions. Ena don’t have time for that during the week.
